A Living Piece of Hollywood’s Golden Age

Arkouda Cabins formerly Embers Lodge, Est. 1935

A Classic Hollywood Hideaway Since 1935

In the 1930s, Big Bear Lake became a favored mountain escape for Hollywood stars and film crews. Originally opened in 1935 as Embers Lodge, Arkouda Cabins was among the first cabin courts built for actors filming Westerns, adventure films, and early television in the surrounding mountains.

Legends like Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Audie Murphy, Howard Hughes, and the cast of Bonanza stayed here, with Andy Devine calling one cabin his personal retreat. Between shoots, guests gathered poolside beneath the pines—where our gazebo and patio now stand.
Today, you can still see the handprints of Marilyn Monroe and Roy Rogers in our original walkways.

OUR MISSION

Arkouda Cabins was established in 2025 and our mission is to preserve one of the last authentic Hollywood-era cabin courts in Big Bear. Original knotty-pine interiors, river-rock fireplaces, and the intimate forest layout remain—thoughtfully updated for modern comfort. As you settle into your cabin, you’re stepping into a living piece of Hollywood history.
